The Greece-Georgia Agreement on the mutual recognition and exchange of driver’s licenses was signed today at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras and the Minister of the Interior of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri.

This agreement enhances and facilitates mobility and enables the competent Greek authorities to have full control over the compliance of foreign drivers with the required standards of safety and skill adequacy.

Mr. Staikouras expressed to the Minister of the Interior of Georgia the readiness for all possible Greek assistance, in the form of the transfer of know-how and good practices, in order to ensure the smooth path towards joining the European Union, which we strongly support.

As the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, pointed out:

This particular agreement is the result of painstaking cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries and is a practical proof of our willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation. In practice, it facilitates the mobility of citizens and highlights the importance of road safety.

I hope that in the future we will have other opportunities for cooperation, in transport or infrastructure, and work towards improving connectivity».

Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri said:

“It is important that Greece is the third member state of the European Union, after Ireland and Spain, to sign the “Agreement on the mutual recognition and exchange of national driving licenses” with Georgia».

He also expressed his satisfaction for the offer of know-how from the Greek side, in the context of Georgia’s European course.
