“Comforting and hopeful” the fact that she has not been intubated and keeps her contact with the environment, according to the director of the NHS at the “Papanikolaus” ICU
About the hemorrhagic stroke from which the great performer Marinella collapsed on stage on Wednesday, the director of the ESY at the Intensive Care Unit of the “Papanikolaou” hospital in Thessaloniki, Nikos Kapravelos, spoke to ERT, pointing out among other things that the first 24 hours are very critical.
The professor emphasized that fortunately she has not been intubated and is still in contact with the environment, speaking of “comforting and hopeful signs”.
As Mr. Kapravelos mentioned, “a stroke whether young, let alone elderly in an intensive care unit, is a life-threatening situation. The first 24 hours are very critical. The brain is a vital organ that directs all other organs. Therefore we want to limit the initial damage. A fault occurred. The brain should not swell, it should not raise pressure, the brain should calm, with very specific gentle movementswe have taken out many sick people who come afterwards and see us.
“It needs attention. But know that the rule in these cases is the elderly make it more difficult for us. This does not mean, however, that the elderly should sit at home in a chair, because this can happen to each of us. It can happen to the elderly when they are sitting at home, when they go to the bathroom, when they are walking, and at any time.”
