Since she was little, Canadian Avril Lavigne has shown a talent for music, a talent first noticed by the girl’s own mother, then five years old, when she sang in church. But few imagined that that little brat, who turns 40 this Friday (27), would go on to become an award-winning artist, an icon of fashion and global pop punk.
Still in his teens, he signed a contract with Arista Records, becoming one of the brightest promises in the segment. His first album, “Let Go”, released in 2002, not only catapulted his career, but also established a new aesthetic for teenagers at the time.
Avril Lavigne’s success is marked by singles that became generational anthems, such as “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi”, songs that dominated the music charts and consolidated her identity. The musical mix, with themes ranging from love to rebellion, and the fashion style (ties, baggy pants and colorfully highlighted hair), influenced the youth of the 2000s.
Since then, Avril has only grown. She entered the Guinness Book by becoming the youngest solo female artist to top the main album chart in the United Kingdom; sold more than R$25 million copies in the first two albums released; and used its image as a global phenomenon to launch its own products and a foundation to support causes for children and young people with disabilities and serious illnesses.
