New message from 112 to the residents of Pyrgos to leave their area and head to Lygia
Firefighters are fighting the rekindling of the deadly fire that broke out yesterday in Xylokastro of Corinthia, and in which two people lost their lives.
Today, the air forces working on the fire were reinforced, which since the morning has been without a single front but with many active foci in hard-to-reach places.
A little while ago, a new message was sent from 112 to evacuate the areas of Chelydoreo and Zacholi.
Earlier it had been sent to the residents of Pyrgos to evacuate their area and head towards Lygia.
To extinguish it, 350 firefighters with 14 forestry teams and 110 vehicles, volunteers and Civil Protection volunteer teams, as well as water tankers and work machines of the Peloponnese Region and the General Staff of National Defense, as well as forces of the Forestry Service and the Greek Police, are working to extinguish it. From the air, 7 aircraft and 11 helicopters operate, of which two are for their coordination.
The process of identifying the two bodies is ongoing
Earlier, as it became known from the Police, two bodies were found by an OPKE group in a forest area in Corinth.
The preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Fire Department, while according to information the two dead were found outside the village of Elliniko, near the camp of Happy Fighters.
The process for their identification is underway, in order to establish whether they belong to two men, 35 and 40 years oldwho have been missing since late last night in the wider area of Ano Pitso, Corinthia.
According to competent sources, the two men took their motorbikes and moved towards the corral of their acquaintance to help him. According to the same information, firemen who met them on the street urged them to move away, as there was a fire in progress.
It is noted that since yesterday an order has been given – through 112 – for the evacuation of 6 settlements, while, according to the information so far from the Fire Department, there are reports of damage in the area of the Greek Wooden Castle of Corinthia. However, a complete picture will be available after the fire is extinguished.
The fire broke out yesterday in a forest area at 10:51 and took on large dimensions, as it spread over a large perimeter due to the very strong winds blowing in the area with gusts of up to 8 Beaufort. The fire is burning dense vegetation, while the difficult terrain of the area makes the work of the fire brigade difficult.
