The fire brigade will be on foot throughout the evening in the fire that broke out on the morning of Sunday 19/9 in Xylokastro Corinthia and in which two men lost their lives.

The fire brigade will fight for the third night in a row in order to limit the scattered outbreaks and stop any flare-ups.

As it became known from the Fire Department, there is no active front anywhere, while scattered outbreaks are located in Eurostina. Xanthohori, Sofiana, Koumaria Rizenon, Helydoreo and ‘Ano Pitsa Corinthia. According to information from the Fire Department, the outbreaks are mainly in hard-to-reach places, while low-intensity winds are blowing in the area.

“We are facing a very difficult situation in Corinth”, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, noted yesterday, among other things, in a press conference he gave. Mr. Kikilias stood in the relief of these areas characterized, as he said, by very large ravines, streams, holes, cliffs and very high mountain peaks, which creates difficulties in approaching them.

490 firefighters with 16 forest commando teams and 159 vehicles, volunteers, Civil Protection volunteer teams, as well as water tankers and work equipment from the Peloponnese region and the General Staff of the National Defense, as well as forces from the Forestry Service and the Hellenic Police, remain and operate at the scene. from the air until the last light of day, 31 aerial vehicles contributed, namely, 17 helicopters (of which 3 for coordination) and 14 aircraft (of which 2 Italian).

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection yesterday activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) with a request to provide aerial assistance to deal with the forest fires in Corinthia.

In particular, the aid to our country includes three CL-415 firefighting aircraft, two from Italy and one from Croatia.

It is noted that in the last twenty-four hours that passed, 41 agroforestry fires occurred.
