Message of the leader of ELAS for World Animal Day
“Cfor the Greek Police, the protection of all animals, tamed and not, is a high priority and is part of the existing Anti-Criminal Policy Program for the years 2021-2025. Our goal remains the safeguarding of the five freedoms of animals, as they are explicitly reflected in the Greek Legislation” emphasizes, among other things, the leader of ELAS, lieutenant general Dimitrios Mallios, in his message on the occasion of tomorrow’s World Animal Day.
The message of the Leader of ELAS in detail:
“World Animal Welfare Day is celebrated every year on October 4 to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare and encourage people to take action to protect them.
The theme of this year’s world day: “The world is also their home”, reminds us of our individual and collective debt to all the creatures with whom we share the planet, taking on, in my view, an environmental dimension as well, in the context of climate change and the consequent negative consequences on the global fauna.
For the Greek Police, the protection of all animals, tamed and not, is a high priority and is part of the existing Anti-Criminal Policy Program for the years 2021-2025.
Our goal remains the safeguarding of the five freedoms of animals, as they are explicitly reflected in the Greek Legislation.
The five-digit nationwide telephone number “10410”, which operates in the Animal Protection Department of our Headquarters, to assist in the immediate and effective management of cases of neglect, active and passive abuse and death of animals, has accepted its two years of operational operation, approximately 7,500 complaints, which demonstrates the increased level of awareness of our fellow citizens and the trust they show in our Organization for the management of these cases.
The Hellenic Police is committed to dealing strictly with any form of abuse, which constitutes an unacceptable and deeply anti-social behavior.
At the same time, with a collective effort, all together, States, Agencies, Organizations and Citizens, we will work to ensure an environment where animals will be treated with love and care».
