The Wooden castle visited by Stefanos Kasselakiswho performed an autopsy on those damaged by the disaster firewhile he met with residents of the area who were in danger of losing their homes.
“I see the damage and after a few weeks it is forgotten by the authorities,” said St. Kasselakis, expressing his concern about the situation, as the needs of the citizens may be neglected over time.
Mr. Kasselakis spoke with the firefighters who participated in extinguishing the devastating fire and was informed about the details of their operation, as well as their efforts to limit the extent of the disaster. He once again expressed his appreciation for the dedication and self-sacrifice of the firefighters.
Stefanos Kasselakis spoke with a local beekeeper, who has suffered serious damage from the fire. The beekeeper expressed her complaints regarding the required procedure for compensation, as she stated that she was asked for the amount of 280 euros to submit the application regarding the damage she suffered.
“I have lost my business and I am already paying for it,” he said, recalling the difficult conditions faced by those affected by the disasters. This discussion highlights the need for relief and support for those affected, but also the pressure exerted by the bureaucracy at critical moments.
Following his visit to Xylokastro, Stefanos Kasselakis met with citizens, as well as SYRIZA officials, who welcomed him warmly, saying: “we are here because you are here”. Mr. Kasselakis expressed his desire to change the party, asking for the help of the citizens, and underlined that his purpose is to put power in their hands, stressing: “You will decide.”
The executives of SYRIZA assured him of their support saying: “We are with you, you will always be our president” while adding “We have fallen many times president and now you have come and lifted us up”.
