Adoption and voluntary cleaning action by PPC staff at Makrame and Mikrolimano beaches in Lavrio, as well as cleaning of 47 beaches in Kea, Kythnos, Sifnos and Serifos

More than 1.2 tons of wasteover 24,000 cigarette butts and 10,000 pieces of plastic (straws, bags, etc.)

More than 1.2 tons of garbage were collected by the cleaning teams on the beaches Macramé and Microlimano in Lavrio, as well as on 47 beaches of the islands Kea, Kythnos, Sifnos and Serifosas part of PPC’s collaboration with Project Paralies. The action concluded with the voluntary cleaning of the beaches of Lavrio by PPC employees, strengthening the Group’s strategy for sustainable development through the implementation of sustainability practices and environmental responsibility and its commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (Goal 14 Life in Water)

PPC, in collaboration with Project Paraliesthis summer adopted the two beaches of Lavrio and made sure they remained clean, informing and urging bathers to recycle their waste by category in the specially designed bins. The clean-up actions were extended through the On the road initiative to the islands of Kea, Kythnos, Serifos and Sifnos, where the cleaning teams were for one week on each island and cleaned a total of 47 beaches, collecting more than 34,000 pieces of waste of all kinds.

During the adoption of the beaches in Lavrio, they gathered together 290 kg of plastic145 kg of paper, 127 kg of aluminum, 273 kg of glass and 384 kg of mixed waste in the sorting bins. Cigarette butts (7,114 pcs.), plastic pieces (2,681 pcs.) and bags (1,066 pcs.), pieces of paper (2,459 pcs.) and plastic straws (962 pcs.) were the most frequent types of waste collected by the volunteers on the beaches.

The carbon benefit derived from recycling the waste collected during beach adoption corresponds to the annual carbon benefit derived from a 4.47 hectare forest.

Accordingly, from the cleanings on the 47 beaches of the 4 islands, 76.9 kg of waste were collected, a total of 34,431 pieces with the three most common items being cigarette butts (17,644 pieces), plastic pieces (6,800 pieces) and pieces of paper (4,673 pieces .).
