His support of Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap and of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta, the mayor of Rhodes, Mr. Alexander Koliadis, in the context of claiming the conference of the Unesco World Heritage Cities Organization to be held in Rhodes in 2028.

According to rodiaki.gr, the mayor of the city, welcoming on Saturday morning the Grand Master and his diplomatic entourage at the town hall, told him that “they should feel at home here”, as the knights are identified with the history of Rhodes and also said that “our dream is to have the medieval city as it deserves”.

The Grand Master did not hide his delight at being in Rhodes and said that the Order has a long tradition of helping the poor and the weak around the world.

Master

Immediately after, the Grand Master and his entourage had a meeting with the Regional Governor of South Aegean Giorgos Hatzimarkos, who after the cooperation they had pointed out the following:

“For the first time after 502 years, the Sovereign Military Nursing Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta, returns, with its highest institutional representation, to “beloved” Rhodes. In my office I had the honor to welcome the 81st Grand Master, Fra’ John Dunlap and to express to him our respect for the strong cultural and monumental imprint of the Order in Rhodes, but also the expectation that the centuries-old relationship will continue with new perspectives, in basis of our common universal values. The stock of the Ioannites includes, next to the defense network of the strong castles of Rhodes, the churches and public buildings, and their constant effort to defend the region from the danger of Ottoman expansion. We are united by common principles, we are connected by History, in which we are opening, with his visit today, a new chapter”.
