The municipal authority is proceeding with the replacement of the dilapidated schools, which were built after the devastating earthquake of 1978 in the municipality of Thessaloniki, after the “green light” given by the Ministry of Finance by approving funds of 8.5 million euros.

The news was announced from the floor of the municipal council by the mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, during today’s meeting. “8.5 million euros have been approved to start with quick procedures the immediate replacement of the dissolved schools,” said the mayor.

He added that the issue of replacing the demolished ones, which according to studies are deemed unsuitable for housing students and teachers, was raised for the first time by the municipal authority to the Prime Minister himself, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his presence in Thessaloniki. Mr. Angeloudis emphasized that several contacts followed in Athens and now the matter of approving the money is in the “hands” of the Ministry of the Interior, so that the municipality can immediately proceed with the auction of the project.

At the same time, he invited the services of the Ministry of Education to indicate the places that will be suitable for the temporary relocation of male and female students until the construction of the new schools is completed.
