Wine, sherry and Latin food festivals are gastronomic events of the week in SP

The weekend in the capital of São Paulo features festivals dedicated to Portuguese wines, sherry and cuisine from countries on the American continent, as well as new menus in restaurants and bars. See a list of gastronomic news below.

Ara

The dessert-only restaurant is making its first menu change since opening this year. Pastry chef Rodrigo Ribeiro serves creations on a six-course tasting menu (from R$180) or à la carte (R$39 each). Among them is a version of tiramisu made with sheep’s curd cream, champagne biscuits soaked in coffee and cachaça syrup, intense chocolate ganache, sheep’s yogurt, cocoa and coffee crunch.

Brass Brew

The brewery, located in Casa das Caldeiras, launched a drink menu with 23 options, including classics and signature drinks created by bartender Chula Barmaid. One of the cocktails is the sands, prepared with tequila, red pepper syrup, tangerine juice and hibiscus salt (R$54). The food menu features hamburgers and meats cooked on the grill.

Mi Tierra Foods

This weekend, the open-air festival brings together around 60 typical food stalls from 15 countries on the American continent — and from different Brazilian states. It will be possible to taste, for example, the pupusa from El Salvador, a type of thick tortilla made from stuffed corn dough, and the chicken curry from Trinidad and Tobago. Live shows excite the public, with rhythms such as salsa, reggaeton, cumbia and bolero.

Wine Fair

The Rancho Português restaurant promotes its 14th fair dedicated to Portuguese wines. The event brings together specialized importers, such as Casa Flora and Vinha Ibérica, which offer approximately 80 labels for tasting. All bottles are sold at a 30% discount. Among the options, the white ADN Alvarinho, made with Alvarinho grapes and with a dry profile, costs R$ 138.60. Tickets cost R$70, but customers who buy two bottles receive a refund.

Festival of Sake

Dedicated to sake, the event brings together, this Saturday (9), free masterclasses with experts from Japan and representatives of manufacturers, who offer tastings of the ancient Japanese drink.

Manioca

Chef Helena Rizzo opened two new units of her restaurant, more informal than Maní, voted the best in the city by O Melhor de São Paulo Gastronomia. Each address offers exclusive recipes: at Itaim Bibi, for example, chicken curry is served with vegetables, coconut chips and green banana chips (R$90). The other restaurant is in the JK Iguatemi shopping center and has dishes such as grilled octopus with fried cassava, chili oil and pepper aïoli (R$ 95).

Sherry Week

The event, which takes place in several countries until Sunday (10), is dedicated to sherry, a fortified wine (when alcohol is added) from the Andalusia region, in Spain. Bars and restaurants in the capital of São Paulo, such as Caledônia Whiskey Co., The Punch Bar and Borgo Mooca, offer special cocktails, discounts and workshops on the drink. On Saturday (9), the Oka Caburé emporium holds a fair with tastings of 30 labels.

Shihoma Invita

Chef Bia Limoni invites Dário Costa, in charge of restaurants such as Madê, in Santos, for a four-hand dinner at Shihoma — voted the best Italian in particular in Sheet. The duo prepares recipes such as cavatelli with squid ink, tomatoes, squid, basil and seafood sauce on the day.

Trail

With a factory in Barra Funda, the craft brewery gained a new unit, in Pinheiros, occupying the property of the former Oregon snack bar. The in-house produced draft beers are served in 12 taps and are accompanied by drinks, in an exclusive menu created in partnership with the Pina Drinques bar. There are seven options, which incorporate beer in the recipe, such as the honey martini (R$ 35), which contains pastry stout (beer with honey and chocolate).
