In the last 15 years, a 53-year-old listener of hers had turned into a “shadow” of a journalist-radio producer: he sent her flowers, jewelry and various gifts at her work, called her on the phone and visited her at her home on her birthday, constantly seeking contact with her regardless of her personal life.

Although the sufferer appealed in recent years to the Court with a request for injunctive measures not to approach her, the “fan” showed that she was not afraid.

When in the last 24 hours he called her to the radio station, where she works, asking to speak with her on the “air”, the journalist turned to the police, filing a complaint.

Under these circumstances, the 53-year-old was arrested with the spontaneous procedure and sat on the bench of the Single-Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki, which sentenced her to 12 months in prison for threatening through persistent surveillance.

The Court did not suspend the sentence but decided to grant a suspension of its execution before the Court of Appeal, but on the condition that he does not approach the complainant and does not communicate with her in any way.

“I’m afraid, I have a problem with my work. I have been working for 19 years and have never given royalties. He came to my work, he came to my house, I am very scared, I don’t know how he will wake up the next day and what he will do. This has been happening since 2009, I can’t take it anymore, I’m afraid for my physical integrity and my job,” the victim testified before the Court.

Describing the nightmare she has been experiencing all these years with some periods of respite, as she mentioned, she said:

“Due to my profession, we had telephone communication, vague. He found my phone from my mother and started making many phone calls throughout the day. I changed my phone, I moved to another area. He continued to do the same. He sends me flowers, gifts, sweets, watches, jewelry. I didn’t receive anything. He even came to my house on my birthday leaving chocolates and roses.”

As the complainant added, she addressed the police asking them to make recommendations to the 53-year-old and she replied that she “didn’t understand that it was bothering” while apologizing. After continuing the same behavior, with visits to the radio station, he turned in 2023 to a lawyer, with a request for interim measures, and finally with a lawsuit that activated the arrest process.

In her statement, the 53-year-old defendant once again apologized, stressing that she did not want to disturb or follow the journalist.

“I wanted her as a friend. I was in a difficult phase, I was asking for company. He was coming into my house through the radio. I felt a bond. I did everything for him to be happy, not for him to feel threatened,” he said, among other things.
