Irritation is intensifying in Turkey over the next Trump administration and whether it will side with Greece and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean
Irritation is intensifying in Turkey regarding the choices of the newly elected president, Donald Trump, to appoint – as it is estimated – Marco Rubio to the position of Secretary of State and Michael Walsh as National Security Advisor as they have previously stood in support of the Kurds.
“The supporter of the massacres in Gaza will become the Secretary of State of the USA,” reports the pro-government Yeni Safak newspaper, as well as other Turkish media.
It is noted that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has come out in favor of Hamas, and the question that arises for the Turkish government is what will be the developments if the next US Secretary of State has declared his opposition.
At the same time, another question that arises is what Donald Trump and the next foreign minister will do with Greece and Cyprus.
First to express his concern was Devlet Bakhceli, Erdogan’s government partner, who said Trump would have to decide whether to “uphold international law” or support Greece and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.
