At least 24 previously impossible heat waves in various parts of the world are due to climate change
London, Thanasis Gavos
At least 24 waves heatwave in various parts of the planet, which previously would have been impossible to manifest, are due to climate changeconcludes an analysis of hundreds of scientific reports highlighted by the newspaper Guardian.
Analysis by the climate change website Carbon Brief shows that the chances of such phenomena occurring in North America, Europe and Asia would be almost nil if it were not for global warming caused by fossil fuel emissions. .
The analyzes also conclude that 550 heatwaves, floods, storms, droughts and wildfires have become “significantly more severe or more frequent” due to global warming.
The newspaper notes that these conclusions derive from the analysis of only a few of the extreme environmental phenomena that have been noted.
The analyzes concern the impact of an increase in the temperature of the planet by about 1.3 degrees Celsius, with the data showing that this temperature has probably already been exceeded.
The researchers call on countries participating in COP29 in Baku to implement deep and rapid cuts in the emission of dangerous pollutants, but also to urgently fund vulnerable communities that need protection from climate change.
