Citizens’ expectations are high and our responsibility is great” emphasized the Regional Governor of Attica in a meeting that ended a short time ago, regarding the required interventions in the high-risk areas of the Basin.

Aiming at her enhancing early preparation of Attica to deal with possible extreme weather phenomena, a meeting of the Regional Governor of Attica Nikos Hardalia, with the participation of all the local Deputy Regional Governors, was completed a little while ago. The focus was on the anti-flood shielding of the Lekanopedi, with Mr. Hardalia emphasizing the need to prioritize interventions in the high-risk areas, within the framework of the holistic plan that has been drawn up. The preventive actions that should be taken immediately, in order to reduce the risk of flooding phenomena, to ensure the protection of citizens and their properties, and to strengthen the resilience of infrastructure in possible severe weather conditions, were put on the carpet.

Particular emphasis was placed on the vigilance and continuous presence of all District executives in the field, each in their area of ​​responsibility, for the immediate response to potential problems and the recording of needs in real time.

During the meeting, it was also discussed procedure and the tendering schedule of the first 54 flood protection projects within the first quarter of 2024, on a total of 158 projects that should be launched, as well as the need for closer cooperation with all the Municipalities of Attica, with the aim of the best possible coordination, the timely exchange of information and the joint management of situations that may to arise. The Regional Governor underlined that effective cooperation is “key” to the protection of human life, property and the natural environment.

In his statements after the meeting, Nikos Hardalias noted: “I asked the Deputy Governors to be in the neighborhoods all the time. I want all of us to be in the field, next to the citizens. Times are tough, citizens’ expectations are high and our responsibility is great.

In response to the concerns and anxieties of the residents of the Basin, we respond with actions. With specific projects, interventions and programming. Anything that concerns human life, property and the natural environment is a non-negotiable priority for us. The reason we fight is man. They are our fellow citizens, our neighborhoods, our societies. It is their concerns and expectations, to which we owe, in good cooperation with the Municipalities and the co-competent Ministries, to give substantial answers every day».
