The Netflix is streaming two NFL games at Christmas as it seeks to establish itself as a leader in the world of live sports programming. The first game, which will be played earlier on December 25, will be between the Kansas City Chiefs and the host Pittsburgh Steelers.
“With Netflix and Beyoncé, NFL kicks off what’s expected to be a new holiday tradition as streaming giant announces NFL games for 2025 and 2026.”
Viewers may see some “special guests” from the album during the show, Netflix said, without elaborating.
The album “Cowboy Carter” star’s album, which was released in February, consists of 27 tracks and guest collaborators including Linda Martell and Miley Cyrus.
Netflix’s first attempt at handling a live sporting event was marred by technical issues, the Associated Press reported, as users reported technical difficulties watching a highly anticipated fight Friday night between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
The company hailed it as “a record night for Netflix”noting that an estimated 60 million households watched the Paul vs. Tyson main event live worldwide, with 65 million simultaneous streams.
Beyoncé is no stranger to NFL appearances and has performed at two Super Bowls, in 2013 and 2016.
In February, Beyoncé became the first black woman which topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Many fans welcomed the singer’s new music by embracing the cowboy fashion trend, wearing cowboy hats and boots.
But the genre-changing album also brought scrutiny to the star, whose first country song, “Daddy Lessons” (2016), exposed deep differences in the country music industry.
The singer wrapped up her run at the 67th Grammy Awards, leading the way with 11 nominations, including best country album.
Beyoncé was shut out of this year’s Country Music Association Awards for the album ‘Cowboy Carter’, for which she received zero nominations.
Some have noted that the debate surrounding Beyoncé’s album highlights how black people have often faced barriers in country music, despite the fact that the art form is rooted in Black history.
