There were 60 calls received by the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade in areas of the country due to the occurrence of weather phenomena in areas of the country, from the evening hours yesterday until the early hours of the morning today. The calls, as mentioned by the Fire Department in its announcement, mainly concern tree cutting.

Specifically, the Fire Brigade Operations Center received:

  • In the Region of Thessaly, 18 calls were made and 41 tree fellings and one object removal were carried out.
  • In the Region of Epirus, 18 calls were made and 26 tree fellings were carried out (7 in the prefecture of Arta, 8 in the prefecture of Preveza, 6 in the prefecture of Thesprotia, 5 in the prefecture of Ioannina), one pumping of water in Metsovo and one removal of an object in Arta (detachment of a metal awning pipe in a house ).
  • In the Region of Central Greece, 24 calls and 22 tree cuttings were carried out.

It is noted that the Fire Department calls on citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of weather phenomena to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities.

Strong winds swept Thessaly, Epirus and Evia – Tornado “hit” Arta

Due to the strong winds in Thessaly, Epirus and Evia, roads were closed and there were problems with the electricity supply.

Extremely strong winds hit the west of the municipality of Trikkaia on Friday night and Saturday morning, causing destruction in various areas. Villages of DE Koziakas and part of DE Kallidendros, according to the municipal authority, faced strong winds, resulting in trees falling in various places. Mainly traffic and power supply problems were identified in Gorgogyri and Xylopariko, but also in Prodromo, Dendrohori, Valtino, as well as in the settlements of Dilofo, Kori and Exalofo.

The municipality of Trikkaia with the civil protection and the deputy mayor of sector B immediately mobilized municipal and private machinery. The places where the trees fell were cleaned, so that the PPC crews can then start the process of restoring power supply.

Also, the staff of the municipality convened the work of the Fire Service of Trikala for the cleaning of the streets from the fallen trees. The municipality of Trikkaia recommends that citizens pay attention to the bad weather that continues with extremely strong winds in various parts of the municipality.

Due to the strong winds, trees fell on Saturday night in Thessaloniki as well. According to the Fire Service, trees fell in the municipalities of Thermi, Hortiatis and Thermaikos.

Besides, in Macedonia the weather is wintery and it is characteristic that in the ski center Kaimaktsalan the temperature is -7 degrees Celsius, in Lailia -5, in Seli and Kleisoura Kastoria -1 and in Florina 1.

Due to the stormy winds, a truck overturned late yesterday afternoon, at the 108th km of the Egnatia Road, at the height of the Metsovo bridge, on the way to Ioannina.

Temporary snowfall will occur in the northern mountains in western Macedonia.

Winds will blow in the west northwest 5 to 7 and in the Ionian local 8 Beaufort with weakening from the evening. In the east the winds will initially be southwest 5 to 7 and in the central and northern Aegean locally 8 Beaufort, but will quickly turn to north northwest 6 to 8 Beaufort with weakening in the evening in the northeast.

The temperature will drop initially in the north and central areas and from the afternoon in the rest of the regions. It will reach 12 degrees in the north, in the Ionian and the rest of the mainland 16 to 18 and locally in the south 19 to 20 degrees, in the southern island time 21 and in the Dodecanese 23 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures will range in the northern and central plains around -3 (minus three) to 3 degrees Celsius. It is noted that by the evening the drop in temperature will be noticeable throughout the country, when the minimum temperatures will also be noted.

Winds: North northwest 5 to 7, in the Ionian locally 8 Beaufort with weakening from the evening.

Temperature: From 03 to 16 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 4 to 5 degrees lower.

EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS

Weather: In the eastern Peloponnese and the western parts of the eastern Mainland initially cloudy with local rain, early in the morning possibly isolated storms in the Mainland and quick improvement. In Evia, temporarily increased clouds with light local rains which will be limited to eastern Evia in the evening.

Winds: Southwest 5 to 7 and in the east temporary local 8 Beaufort, which will quickly turn to northwest with the same intensity.

EAST AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANISE
