On Tuesday morning the regional governor of Attica Nikos Hardalias proceeded to inspect works at Egaleoin the context of anti-flood works carried out by the Region.

“Today we are restoring the end of an electric pipeline in Kifissos that has been neglected for decades. We are at the junction of the Aegaleo pipeline with Kifissos”, as informed by Mr. Hardalias upon his arrival at the scene.

“I want you to understand something. Here there was a network without any drainage capacity, i.e. an extremely dangerous situation, not only for the neighborhoods of Aegaleos, but also for the neighborhoods of Peristeri and Haidari, since the waters in this channel came high from the stream. As I told you, the particular pipeline ends in Kifissos and has never been cleaned until today, as a result of which it is completely blocked and does not have any drainage capacity. This central electrical conduit is a focal point for the hydraulic network of western Athens”

At the same time, the governor of Attica emphasized that the works are in progress, while it was extremely difficult logistically to approach this pipeline, with a great risk of even landslides.

“I want to publicly thank the mayor of Aegaleos and his services, because they helped us a lot in being able to technically approach this issue. I will only tell you that from Drosini Street to Athens Avenue we have removed more than 9,500 tons of rubble, out of a total of 23,500 tons that we have removed so far from the tiled roofs of Kifissos. We believe that within the next 10 hours, weather permitting, we will have completed the part concerning Aegaleo and we continue under difficult and adverse conditions
