Two arrests – Roman/Byzantine clay lamps, copper and silver coins, as well as pottery shards, among others
Two arrests were made as part of yesterday’s (Monday, November 25, 2024) operation of the Directorate for Combating Trafficking and Trafficking in People and Goods, of the Organized Crime Directorate, during which 172 ancient objects were located in three houses in Alimos, Attica.
It was preceded by an appropriate use of information in collaboration with police officers of the Alimos Police Department, from the further analysis of which, it became possible to locate the specific 3 houses, in the same apartment building, in Alimos Attica.
In particular, in physical searches, as well as from searches carried out in the houses in question and in a vehicle, 172 ancient objects were found and confiscated, which, after being shown to the competent Ephorate of Antiquities, were found to fall under the legislation for the protection of antiquities, while 8 of them need further investigation.
Indicatively, goblets, phials, lekyths, clay figurines and effigies, prochos, miniature skyphos from the archaic and classical/Hellenistic period, clay lamps from Roman/Byzantine times, bronze and silver coins, as well as fragments of pottery were confiscated.
Those arrested, with the case filed against them for violations of the legislation for the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general, were taken to the competent prosecution authority.
