3 people were arrested, including an ELAS officer, who provided information to an international drug ring
The Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces arrested 3 people, including an officer of the Hellenic Police, as part of the execution of arrest warrants by a competent investigator, while the case file includes 3 more people, of which 2 are also ELAS officers, for crimes relating to the support and action of a criminal drug trafficking organization.
In particular, the above are accused – as the case may be – of criminal organization, support of a criminal organization, drugs, patronage, breach of duty, breach of official confidentiality, bribery and bribery of an employee.
According to ELAS, it was preceded by a long-term and thorough investigation of the complaint, while information was received from Europol regarding encrypted conversations through applications related to the case, which were the subject of investigation and study by the police and judicial authorities of France, Belgium and the Netherlands, through Joint Research Group.
In the context of a European Investigation Order by the French Authority against organized crime JUNALCO, the existence of a transnational criminal organization that was active in drug trafficking and the interconnection of its members with police officers who served in the Attica Service emerged.
From the correlation and evaluation of the data received, in combination with the other pre-investigative material, the defendants were identified as being involved, with important roles, in the international network that procured, packaged, imported, stored and ultimately trafficked in Greek territory, large quantities of narcotic substances (mainly cannabis and cocaine).
As pointed out in the ELAS announcement, the involvement of the arrested officer concerns the leakage of information related to official matters and procedures, while his monthly funding was certified, in order to inform and cover the illegal activity of the network in order to avoid their arrest.
At the same time, as it was established, he attempted to procure, on a monthly basis and on behalf of a third party, large quantities of drugs, as well as to include people in his circle of contacts in the illegal activity of the network.
For the unarrested officers, it has been certified that they assisted the network with cover-up procedures, through acts of dereliction of duty, as well as by leaking information.
Those arrested are taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
