The young Turk transported 16 foreigners in a speedboat – He did not comply with the signals of the Coast Guard
In the early hours of today, a patrol boat of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard, which was on a scheduled patrol, detected a suspicious speedboat moving towards the eastern coast of Chios, in the “KARFAS” sea area, and disembarking foreign immigrants.
It then sailed towards the Turkish coast and the coast guard vessel followed it.
The Greek harbor guards used light and sound signals, to which the operator of the speedboat did not comply.
A chase ensued, resulting in the immobilization of the speedboat and the arrest of a 17-year-old foreign (Turkish citizen) operator, as the smuggler of immigrants.
With the assistance of officers from the Police Department of Chios, sixteen foreigners (9 men, 4 women and 3 minors) were located on the coast.
The 17-year-old Turk was charged with violating Article 25 of Law 5038/2023 “Trafficking of illegal immigrants in Greek territory without legal travel documents” and Law 3386/2005 “Illegal entry into Greek territory”, while the speedboat was seized.
