An apartment on Athens Street on the 3rd floor of an apartment building in the center of Kalamata was engulfed in flames.

The fire spread quickly, as a result of which the house burned completely, while as told to tharrosnews.gr the commander of the Kalamata Fire Service, Mr. Papanicolaou, a total of 4 people were admitted to the hospital, including an elderly woman with burns.

According to Mr. Papanikolaou when the fire started, an off-duty firefighter who noticed the incident rushed to the burning apartment and freed an elderly woman with burns.

The elderly woman was taken to the Kalamata Hospital, along with the firefighter who freed her, after inhaling large amounts of smoke, causing her to have a problem.

When the firefighters arrived at the apartment building, they started simultaneously with the extinguishing a large operation to evacuate the building and finally two more people were transported to the Kalamata Hospital, since they were experiencing breathing problems.
