The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, Mr. George Karagianis, referred to the significant increase of the environmental footprint that will be brought by Line 4 of the Metro, the extensive program of urban regeneration and the tree planting provided by the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Municipality of Athens. speaking on ANT1’s “Morning Press” show.
As Mr. Karagiannis stressed, this is the first time that a Memorandum of Cooperation is signed between the Ministry and a Municipality for such an important infrastructure project.
“We are increasing the environmental footprint as we will proceed with 3,000 tree plantings and urban regenerations in a total area of ​​85,000 sq.m.” he stated, adding characteristically: “Our goal is to” green “the Municipality of Athens and the four municipalities through which Metro Line 4 will pass.”
He explained about one of the most important infrastructure projects with a budget of 1.2 billion. euros which, among other things, will lead to the “opening” of up to 10,000 new jobs.
Line 4 will start from the Veikou Grove and will end at Goudi, a route that will be covered in 17 minutes. As the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure explained, “the stations in the center of Athens will thicken and the traffic by car will decrease as 53,000 vehicles will go off the roads”.
Responding to the concerns about the traffic congestion during the construction of Line 4, Mr. Karagiannis assured that the commitment of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is the execution of the project “with the greatest possible speed, the least possible nuisance and the least possible burden on the daily life of citizens “.

According to Mr. Karagiannis, at the end of 2022 there will be environmental permitting to auction the construction of three new stations, Palatiani, Ilion and Agios Nikolaos, on Line 2.
