A rally with tractors and agricultural vehicles was held today by apple growers and chestnut growers of the Municipality of Agia in the central square of the city. The mobilization was organized by the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of the Prefecture of Larissa, in collaboration with the Agricultural Associations and Cooperatives of Agia.

Farmers are protesting, accusing the government of being slow to announce a specific timetable and compensation amounts for damage to their crops from last autumn’s floods.

In a statement by the Federation, among other things, it is stated: “The farmers of Agia, who saw their production destroyed and have a reduced income, have no other income apart from the compensations that have been given to all the affected farmers of Thessaly except Saint. As a sign of goodwill, we gave the Ministry of Rural Development time to announce the payment schedule and the amount of compensation until the end of November, so far we have not received a response. Through our own research we know the number of productive acres that must be compensated and the amount for apples amounts to 380 euros/acre, while for chestnuts an amount of 200 euros/acre has been announced. We demand the ministry to answer us about the payment schedule and immediately compensate the beneficiary apple and chestnut producers with the corresponding amount of compensation”.
