More than 370 points of the road network of Rhodes need interventions, emphasizes the regional governor of South Aegean, Giorgos Chatzimarkos
A huge operation involving a large number of project machines and a lot of personnel, was set up the previous two days in the Ialysoexclusively to get out of the flat-roofed river of Ialyssos a large tree that was found to have been blocked in one of the transverse walls that the river has in its path.
According to the report of dimokratiki.gr, only on Thursday, for about 12 hours (!) the work lasted.
As the regional governor of South Aegean described in his post George Chatzimarkos, “the criminal planning to cover this river haunts us. Cross-section change, central support columns, pipelines of all categories, alternating grades with elevations are just a few of what we see in the underground part of this river”.
It was necessary to make two cuts in the road surface at a distance of 50m from each other, to bring down machines and people who worked for more than five hours and after cutting the trunk of the tree to finally take it out in sections. Yesterday, work continued with a third, much larger cut in the southern part of the flat-roofed river.
The regional governor draws the attention of drivers on the roads as there were more than 370 points of the road network that need interventions.
In detail, the post of Mr. Hatzimarkou on social media:
“In the evening (Thursday) and for about 12 hours, an operation that included a large number of project machines and a lot of personnel, was set up exclusively to remove from the tiled river of Ialyssos a large tree that was detected, from the inspection we made earlier on it, to it is blocked in one of the transverse walls (!) that the river has in its path. The criminal planning of the cover up of this river haunts us. Cross-section change, central support columns, pipelines of all categories, alternating grades with elevations are just a few of what we see in the underground part of this river. We had to make two cuts in the road surface at a distance of 50m from each other, to bring down machines and people who worked for more than five hours and after cutting the trunk of the tree to finally take it out in sections. Today (yesterday) we will continue with a third, much longer cut in the southern part of this flat-topped river. The years when technical crimes appeared as solutions that improved life seem carefree, while in fact they threatened it and continue to threaten it, and the terrible thing is that some of those who participated in this criminal policy today, first, are pointing the finger at us!
I want to thank all the staff who work selflessly during these hours. The damage recording teams in businesses have been set up and until yesterday 133 businesses had submitted a registration request to us.
The National Meteorological Service gives us a new warning for these two days and the alert remains. Drivers need to be careful on the roads. There were more than 370 points of the road network in which we had to intervene and as it is understood, this is not possible to do in the time we have at our disposal. We closed some sections of the road network and the rest, I repeat that drivers need to be careful and especially low speeds.
Amidst all the difficulties, yesterday we also had the well-known tactic of some immature and irresponsible politicians who spread the false news about the construction of a Hot Spot on a specific property in Rhodes and the uprising of the residents of the area.
Fake news feeds the selfishness of its initiators who do not respect any moment. That’s as far as their “ability” goes and that’s what they can do.
The Fire Brigade has renewed its staff that came from Athens and we continue the work”, he notes in conclusion.
“Wounded” Faliraki
The president of the Municipal Community Kallithea Vassilis Sotrillis describing the situation in the wider area of his responsibility, with the many fronts in the destructive passage left by the “Bora” bad weather, he emphasized that “Faliraki remains “wounded” and according to estimates there are around 70-80 houses that have been damaged and expected to reach 90 (!), while businesses will reach around 50, in hotels and shops. The applications submitted to the compensation platform in the South Aegean region for businesses were up to Friday morning by 43 entrepreneurs and for houses approximately 40 applications were submitted to the municipality, a number that is expected to double.
In detail, as stated by Mr. Sotrillis, “since the previous days we have managed to open the big river next to Neophytos in at least two places, of course there is still the big problem that the collapse of the bridge has left the materials of the bridge inside, this might make its course and flow difficult river, I hope not, that’s one point.
But we opened up several other points and thus created a better natural flow from the incredibly carried materials that had blocked all the streams and rivers. The big problem is focused on Poto, already there the municipality intervenes with a machine to improve the condition of the bed, but also the access of the people. We have three regional axes in Kalythies and Faliraki completely cut off. Faliraki and Kalythies are hurt. Three main regional road axes which are the Kallithea avenue cut off, the regional one from Traunou which serves the entire eastern side for someone who wants to visit Kalythies, at the height of Potos the big intervention that is being done, we are there in a very difficult situation, but we are already operating there with the municipality’s machinery and on the regional road in the stream from Psinthos to Kalythies there is a huge sedimentation of the materials on the substrate of the road surface, with the result that in this lane at the height of the chapel of Agios Iakovos, just before the Kalythion stadium, the road surface there is literally floating in the air, in a range of about 70 meters on the road surface. It needs a lot of attention from the drivers. Based on the impression I made and the applications that have come in we have sent 30 applications since the day before yesterday for processing to pass the step and we already have another 10 up in the offices as we speak. So we have captured 40, about 70 to 80 houses so far. I think the number will continue to increase and I think we will reach 90 because there are people who have left their homes and are now coming back and calling us and that’s how we fill this list. For business I am at number 45 and predict we will reach 50 businesses. We will also see the data from PNAi because the applications are submitted there on the relevant platform”, as he pointed out.
For his part, the deputy mayor of Kallithea Stathis Manousakis emphasizes that the recording of damages in the affected areas of the municipal unit continues, stressing that the mechanism remains ready.
As he said, around 30-40 houses have been damaged in the area adjacent to the Neophytos stream on the Rhodes-Lindoi National Road, while many hotel businesses have been damaged in Faliraki, where the bridge also collapsed from the rushing waters of the river. A few families, he pointed out, left their homes, while three houses remain blocked in Tsairi.
Major disasters in the road network of Kremasti
Tremendous damages have also been recorded in Kremasti, as stated in “d” by its president Vangelis Laos Municipal Community. He points out that “the entire road that accompanies the Kremastis river from the Pastida branch to where it ends at the sea has been damaged. All Irish passages. And also from the new bridge of Kremastis – from the height of the roundabout to the intersection with Pastida. There is damage in 90% of rural road construction. There are also estates with animals to which the owners, breeders, etc. do not have access. As well as estates with crops that were destroyed mainly potato crops. Another big problem is that the pipeline of the biological Kremastis is broken. The Kremastis spiritual center was flooded. In Castelo Rosso next door, the pharmacy was in danger. We have landslides on rural roads leading to farms with livestock. Also, the rural road that leads to Panagia Eleimonitria has not been fully opened and leads to farms with animals. As well as the agricultural road that leads to the organic farming of Mr. Dramudani has suffered a lot of damage”, as he reports.
