The planning for the extension of Line 2 of the Metro in the Municipality of Acharnon was presented at an event organized by the Municipality of Acharnon confirming the importance of the project for the local community.

During the event, the strategic importance of the extension of the metro in the Municipality of Acharna was highlighted, which will contribute decisively to the improvement of the daily life of the residents, offering faster, safer and more environmentally friendly transportation.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Vassilis Oikonomou, said: “The plan to extend Metro Line 2 to the Municipality of Acharna is a historic moment for the region and a project of multidimensional importance for Attica. The connection of Acharni and the Municipality of Agioi Anargyro – Kamaterou, as well as the Municipality of Fylis (Zefyri) with the Metro network, will not only improve the lives of the residents, but also strengthen the local economy, as it will create new development opportunities . Today, the planning and feasibility and viability study of the project begins. We invest in infrastructure that puts the citizen at the center, making his movements faster, more comfortable and safer. This project is another step to make Attica sustainable and modern transportation.

With projects like this, we give perspective, enhance the quality of life and create the conditions for a fair and sustainable development for all”.

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos said: The Metro is one of the most popular and socially beneficial projects and cultivates not only sustainable urban mobility, but also social mobility. In any case, it is a project that needs a long maturation.

Today, we are coming to the Municipality of Acharna to present the Metro layout we are discussing. It is a case that has started since the first administration of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, an order to investigate access to the Municipality of Acharna given by the Prime Minister himself.

At this stage, we cannot give timetables. All I can say is that at this moment, Hellenic Metro S.A. has the mandate to “run” the design and proceed with the feasibility and viability study of the project. This is absolutely necessary to be able to include it in an upcoming financial instrument. This is the direction that the current political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has set for the public company that builds the metro projects in Attica”.
