In the incident with the stoppage of the train at Metro of Thessalonikiwhich occurred on Saturday afternoon and upon its evacuation by the passengers, THEMA AE, the company responsible for the operation of the Metro, comes back with a new press release, emphasizing that the passengers, guided by attendants, passed through the pedestrian walkway in absolute safety of the tunnel, a distance of 70 meters to the platform of the “Fleming” station, from where they exited.

“THEMA SA points out that the safety systems in the automatic Thessaloniki Metro meet the highest international safety requirements and the stopping of the train, as well as the evacuation in the event of an incident, absolutely serve the safety of the passengers, which is the first, main and non-negotiable concern of the company – operator, as well as Helliniko Metro S.A. and the construction consortium of the project, AIASA”, is stated in today’s announcement.

It is emphasized that “in the incident, the system’s safety reserves worked with complete success and subsequently, the procedure for the safe removal of passengers was followed as planned. The goal of maintaining the Metro’s high level of safety for passenger operation was thus achieved.”

It is underlined by the company that “a further thorough investigation will be carried out on train 15 and on the feeders of the substations, at the “Analipsi” and “Euclid” stations, in order to identify the primary cause of the incident. Train 15 will remain out of service until the investigation is completed.”

In the same announcement it is stated, among other things, that the problem occurred at 17:59 yesterday afternoon, at 18:10 the Operation Control Center decided to start evacuating the train, at 18:30 an alternative service was implemented, at 18:30 technicians checked indications at the Operation Control Center, at 19:34 the third feeder line was successfully energized and train 15 moved to depot for further investigation while at 20:45 normal operation resumed.
