On Tuesday 18/6/24 ELTA, as a provider of courier services, among others, and Cyclopolis IKE, as a micromobility system manager, partners in the European research program SOTERIA, organized a workshop to record the needs of professional distributors regarding road safety and their health.

The workshop was attended by executives from all levels of ELTA’s courier services, specialized in quality assurance, human resources management, network monitoring, as well as managers of the vehicle traffic office.

The opinions submitted were the starting point for the trial application of equipment for recording and warning of dangerous conditions in the selected fleet of ELTA couriers, in the cities of Chania and Igoumenitsa, with the aim of preventing possible accidents.

The installation of the equipment on the bikes started in September 2024 and was completed on Thursday 7/11/24.

Within the framework of the European research program SOTERIA, four “Living Laboratories” have been created in four European countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Greece), with the aim of jointly designing solutions for road safety and health of non-car road users .

Specifically in Greece, open structures operate in two cities (Chania and Igoumenitsa) with an emphasis on the design and implementation of innovative technological solutions to increase road safety and protect the health of bicyclists.

The European Union leads the world in reducing fatal and serious road accidents. However, it has not achieved similar results for those citizens who are outside the car. For 2021, 70% of serious road crashes recorded involved “vulnerable road users” such as bicyclists.

In the business strategy of both ELTA and Cyclopolis, road safety plays a central role, while both companies, through their participation in the SOTERIA program, develop tools and methodologies that contribute to the achievement of the “Vision for Zero Accidents” (“Vision Zero”) of the European Commission for the complete elimination of fatal traffic accidents by 2050.
