The 33-year-old man, a French national, who was arrested at noon on Thursday in the area of ​​the Municipality of Hersonissos in Heraklion, is facing the charge of murder, having fatally wounded a 36-year-old woman, whom he carried away with the vehicle he was driving.

According to the police, from the preliminary investigation of the Sub-Directorate of Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes of Heraklion in collaboration with police officers of the Police Department of Hersonissos and the appropriate use of evidence, it emerged that the 33-year-old moved purposefully and led the 36-year-old away, causing her fatal injury. The perpetrator was immediately searched for, located by officers of the Hersonissos Police Department and arrested.

In the video, it appears that the driver of the vehicle initially maintains a distance from the 36-year-old’s car and shortly before the woman gets out of it, he backs off a few meters. When the 36-year-old opens the door of her vehicle and gets out of it, it seems to start and fall violently on her. The impact is so severe that the body of the 36-year-old woman ends up several meters away, while the I.X. turns over.

According to information, the 33-year-old perpetrator, a French national, shortly after 12:00 noon driving the car depicted in the video, dragged the 36-year-old woman away resulting in her fatal injury and then crashed into her vehicle. He fled in an unknown direction, was searched for, located and arrested after immediate action by the officers of the Hersonissos Police Department. From the evidence of the preliminary investigation so far (video material), there are indications of criminal activity and the possibility of homicide is being considered.

What did the perpetrator claim?

It appears from the police investigation that the 33-year-old did not know the victim. According to information, he is said to be delirious and claimed that it was not clear to him whether the person who hit him was a man or a woman and that it seemed to him that it was someone who had abused him in his country.

He was transferred on December 12 to a psychiatric clinic but was not hospitalized

In fact, it appears that on December 12, the perpetrator was transferred from the Rethymno police station for a psychiatric examination to the psychiatric clinic of the Rethymno Hospital by prosecutor’s order. However, it was deemed that the conditions for his hospitalization were not met and he was not hospitalized.
