The National Archaeological Museum, during the Christmas holidays, invites young and old to enjoy the beauty of ancient art by participating in creative activities and watching storytelling and classical melodies. Specifically, according to a relevant update from the Museum, the following will take place:

Festive concerts.

This year, the Museum has the pleasure of hosting two musical events:

  • Sunday, December 22, 2024, 12:00, Altar Hall

The annual Christmas concert will fill the Museum area with well-known melodies and carols from the children’s choir of the Music Schools of the Athens Conservatory. The children’s choir will be accompanied by a flute and clarinet band from the Athens Conservatory.

  • Sunday, December 29, 2024, 12:30 p.m., Altar Hall

The artistic workshop “Olgarythmos”, in collaboration with the conservatory “Protoporia”, will present carols, spirituals and jazz music pieces from Greece and the world. The melodies will be sung by the choir ensembles of Olgarytmos, led by conductor Olga Alexopoulou, and will be orchestrated by the jazz band of the teachers of the Conservatory.

A ticket is required to enter the Museum.

Educational activities for children

  • Tuesday 24 December 2024 for children aged 9 to 12:

Educational program entitled “Glass, my glass… I’ll find you at the Museum» with an art workshop.

The children will learn about the drinking vessels of the ancients and, guided by the Museum’s archaeologists, will look for the related exhibits on the first floor of the Vessel Collection. They will collect information about them and touch replicas of ancient vessels. They will also participate in an art workshop under the guidance of the Museum Painter, creating their own work of art, inspired by the exhibits they discovered, which they will take with them at the end of the program. Time: 11:00 – 13:00. Number of children per program: 15 children.

  • Friday 27 December 2024 for children aged 5 to 8 years:

Educational program entitled “Ancient toys in the Museum” accompanied by an art workshop.

The young friends of the Museum will get to know ancient toys through a pleasant tour of the “Children’s World” of the permanent exhibition and through tactile contact with copies of ancient toys under the guidance of the archaeologists in charge. Finally, they will participate in an art workshop under the guidance of the Museum Painter, inspired by the ancient exhibits and will create their own work of art that they will take with them after the program. Time: 11:00 – 13:00. Number of children per program: 15 children.
