Life imprisonment and an additional 19-year sentence was imposed by the Kilkis Joint Court of Jury on the 45-year-old Norwegian who last December killed the 32-year-old policeman with a knife and injured his best friend, after a dispute that preceded over a trivial matter, while they were having fun in a beer bar, in eastern Thessaloniki .

The judges unanimously found him guilty of manslaughter in a calm state of mind, committed and attempted, as well as of illegal carrying and use of weapons, just like the criminal prosecution for which he was called to apologize to the Thessaloniki investigator when he was temporarily detained.

In his apology, he appeared remorseful and claimed that he had consumed alcohol, citing memory lapses. However, he did not convince the court that, apart from his guilt and the sentence with the maximum penalty, it decided not to grant him any mitigation.

The murder happened in the early hours of December 28, 2023 in a bar located on Katsimidis Street (next to the headquarters of the MAT Thessaloniki), where the 32-year-old EL.AS officer was having fun. (off duty) with his friends. Among the people in the group was his best friend, 33 years old, who for some unrelated and insignificant matter disagreed with the Norwegian, a patron of the same shop. The friend asked the 45-year-old to stop by literally saying ‘enough, what do you want us to fight about?’, as the situation appeared to have reached a tipping point.

That’s when, according to the affidavit, the defendant pulled a 14-centimeter-long “Push Dagger” palm knife from the waistband of his pants, stabbing the friend in the thigh and anterior chest.

Holding his leg and in a state of panic, the 33-year-old started calling out to his friends, so the policeman, in his attempt to mediate, approached and punched the accused twice in the face, while he immediately headed next to the MAT facilities to call for help. Returning to the store, however, the unlucky police officer was stabbed by the 45-year-old in the left cervical area, causing him to fall to the ground bleeding, lose consciousness and ultimately his life.
