Businessman Richard Carter decided this Christmas to charge his family and friends to attend his holiday dinner for one reason: he doesn’t care if they call him Scrooge because “he’s already earned that reputation over the years,” as he told the Daily Mail.

Despite his wife’s objections, this Christmas those who want to sit at his luxurious table will have to pay 75 pounds (90 euros) each.

In return, they will taste fine foods – like instead of turkey. a fine prime rib and Iberian ham as a starter – but also expensive wines such as welcome champagne and white burgundy or Spanish red wine at dinner.

In fact, as Carter joked, “if you factor in the cost of the prime rib and all the wine and spirits that will be consumed, maybe £75 is a bit much after all.”

In fact, this is the first year Richard has attempted to charge for Christmas dinner and as he and his family rotate each year he believes his turn may not come for “a number of years”.

However, as he said, the money that will be collected will be allocated for a charitable purpose.

“We haven’t decided which charity the money will go to yet. I think we’ll let it be voted on over a few drinks at the end of dinner and see where we end up,” said the Lopay founder.
