Funding of 2.3 million euros in 111 small businesses in the historic center of Athens

This is the initiative Athens Business Green Toolkitannounced last May by Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens (EATA), and is part of a comprehensive strategy of the municipal authority to support the local economy and at the same time create the best conditions for a sustainable and resilient city.

“At a time when the energy crisis is becoming a key factor in the survival of small businesses, we are utilizing European resources to once again support the market and offer economic respite to businesses in the historic center. Through the “Athens Business Green Toolkit” initiative, 111 companies are upgraded operationally and energetically, ensuring significant financial benefits for themselves, but also great environmental benefits for the city. “With targeted” green “interventions, we create the conditions for a sustainable Athens and at the same time we make a dynamic contribution to the strengthening of the city’s economy”, says in a statement the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis.

80% financing of investment projects

As part of the action, the small Athenian companies that submitted the applications for financing based on their investment plans (budget 5,000 – 30,000 €), are financed by the Municipality of Athens at a rate of 80% of the total investment, in order to upgrade their business energetically and operationally. This means more environmentally friendly facilities with reduced energy consumption and, consequently, significant resources for the business itself.

Through the program, formed on the basis of the principles of energy efficiency and bioclimatic planning, the beneficiary companies operating in the historic center have the opportunity to upgrade their equipment to reduce energy loss, to proceed with interventions related to thermal insulation, frames and shading, to enhance the lighting of their business and ultimately improve their building infrastructure.

The 111 companies that will receive the financing are active in its sectors education, advertising, publishing, manufacturing, catering, tourism etc. Each of them will be able to disburse the approved funds in the immediate future, after its inclusion in the relevant decision.

Complete program for market support

It is reminded that the Municipality of Athens implements a comprehensive program to support Athenian entrepreneurship and jobs in all sectors.

A total of 95 companies in the capital that are active in the field of Culture (theaters, cinemas, theaters, etc.) are supported with the amount of 6.7 million euros, in the context of supporting culture in Athens after the pandemic.

The “Agora Athens” project is part of the same program, implemented by the Athens Chamber of Commerce with the support of EATA and aspires to turn the historic market of the city into an “open trade center”, increasing shopping in the area, strengthening the tourism and strengthening local employment.

Athens Business Green Toolkit

The action entitled: “Athens Business Green Toolkit: Upgrading businesses in the historic center of Athens in terms of green operation to improve their image” is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under the Operational Program “ATTICA” 2014 -2020 – NSRF 2014-2020.

The initiative is implemented through the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens (EATA) and is part of the package of measures with a total budget of 40 million euros, announced in November 2020 by the municipal authority to support businesses operating within the region. intervention of OHE (Integrated Spatial Investment) of the Municipality of Athens.
