The operation – broom of the Greek Police against illegal gambling continues unabated, which, like every year, is in full swing during the holiday season.

Illegal hangouts all over Greece are being closed down one after the other, while dozens of players and store managers are arrested for conducting and participating in illegal games of chance.

It is indicative that within just 24 hours, EL.AS. carried out two more strikes against illegal gambling wearing handcuffs to 14 people for illegal gambling in Attica and Thessaloniki.

The latest blow to illegal gambling took place on Saturday, December 21, with the demolition of yet another illegal mini-casino in Thessaloniki and the arrest of 4 people.

According to the announcement by EL.AS, among those arrested were 3 customers of the store as well as the temporary manager, who were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office, while a case file was filed against them for violating the legislation regulating the gaming market. The owner of the shop, who is wanted, is also included in the case file.

From the search, 24 complete electronic computers were found and confiscated, as well as 1,892 euros.

In fact, at the beginning of December, another mini casino in the area of ​​Thessaloniki was locked up, with EL.AS. to arrest 3 more people for illegal gambling.

10 arrests for illegal “fruits” in Attica as well

Another store of health interest, which had been turned into an illegal mini-casino, was detected by the Greek Police on Friday, December 20, this time in an area of ​​Attica.

A total of 10 people were arrested, including the store’s temporary manager, who was acting on behalf of the owner, as well as 9 customers, against whom a case file was filed for – as the case may be – violations of the laws regulating the gaming market and protecting personal data .

As part of the investigation, 44 central computer units, 43 screens depicting “slots” and “roulette”, 4 computers, 7 surveillance cameras as well as 560 euros were found and confiscated.

Heavy fines and jail time for illegal players as well

The “bells” provided for both conducting and participating in illegal gambling are heavy.

In particular, illegal gambling players are subject to a prison sentence of up to three months and a fine of between 5,000 and 20,000 euros.

With regard to persons who conduct games without the required license, a prison sentence of at least three years and a fine of 100,000 to 200,000 euros per gaming machine is provided, if the games are conducted with gaming machines.

If the games are conducted over the Internet, a prison sentence of at least three years and a fine of between 200,000 and 500,000 euros is provided, while if the games are played by chance, a prison sentence of at least ten years and a fine of 700,000 euros are provided, regardless of the manner or means of conducting the games.
