In the framework of the operational plan of intensive controls of food of animal origin implemented by the Region of Attica during the festive period, the Department of Veterinary Public Health of the Directorate of Agricultural and Veterinary Policy (DAKP) located in a meat business and seized a total quantity of 25,670 kg of spoiled meat and its by-products, as the conservation limits were exceeded and the essentials were absent indications/markings.

The quantity in question is one of the largest detected since the establishment of the District’s control mechanisms in a single enterprise.

In the company in question, which is a non-productive unit, the procedure for imposing the prescribed administrative sanctions has already been initiated.

According to the aggregated data for the period from 11 to 23 December 2024, carried out by the General Directorate of Agricultural Economy, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries:

*⁠⁠452 checks on food of plant origin where 38 recommendations were made.

*⁠ ⁠376 checks on food of animal origin, where 9 seizures were recorded (1,800 eggs and 482.95 kg of meat and preparations) and 98 recommendations were made.

*⁠⁠29 inspections in slaughterhouses.

*⁠ ⁠48 controls on the movement of animals for slaughter.

*⁠ ⁠63 checks on food establishments of animal origin, where there were 4 cases of seizures (total weight of 2,941 kg of meat and preparations) and 19 recommendations were made.

*⁠⁠366 export controls.

At the same time, 11 decisions imposing fines were issued following the decision of the competent committees.
