Civil Protection stations in Martino, Malakasa, Afidnes, Vilia, Psachna, Mantoudi and Aliveri are on full alert – Nea Odos calls on drivers to have full tanks
The onslaught of new bad weather began early on Saturday, with snow in many areas of the country, gale force winds and bitter cold.
According to the updated National Weather Service Emergency Bulletin:
– Heavy rains and storms are predicted in the central and southern Aegean, the Sporades, Evia, the Cyclades, the islands of the eastern Aegean, in places in Crete and the Dodecanese.
– Stormy winds will blow in the Aegean 8 and locally 9 Beaufort, as a result of which a sailing ban will be in effect (see further details in the article).
– Snowfall will occur in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas in the mainland, in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Evia and Attica in the morning hours.
– Due to snowfall, vehicular traffic on Parnitha Avenue from the height of the cable car has been suspended since last night.
Anti-skid chains are mandatory in Attica – Prohibition of lorries
In Attica, it is already snowing in Ippokrateio Politeia, Parnitha, Dionysos, Kalamos, while from last night until 4 this afternoon (until later) it is mandatory to equip cars of all categories with anti-skid chains or special snow tires.
Civil Protection base stations in Martino, Malakasa, Afidnes, Vilia, Psachna, Mantoudi and Aliveri are on full alert, while Nea Odos calls on drivers, among other things, to have anti-skid chains on their vehicles and to have a sufficient amount of fuel in their vehicle’s tank while in case of emergency they should call 1075.
At the same time, to facilitate the departure of New Year’s excursions, the movement of trucks over 3.5 tons is prohibited, regardless of the use of anti-skid chains, until 16:00 on Saturday 28/12 as follows:
– on the Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway from the Kalyftaki bridge in Attiki to Malgara and – on the Old Elefsina-Thebes National Highway, from km 5,000 (REVOIL gas station – formerly CYCLON) to the limits of N. Attica with N. Boeotia (m/h 30,000) in both traffic streams.
Anti-slip chains are mandatory and:
– in Central Greece, on the entire road network of Boeotia, Evia, Evrytania, Fthiotida and Fokida,
– in Thessaly, on the entire road network of Larissa, Magnesia, Trikala and Karditsa,
– in Western Macedonia, on the entire road network of Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani and Florina,
– in Central Macedonia, on the entire road network of Halkidiki, Imathia and Pella, as well as for the mountainous and semi-mountainous road network of Pieria.
For ship itineraries
– Routes from Piraeus, Volos and Arkitsa run normally.
– Especially for the itineraries to Argosaronicos, a newer update is expected.
– The route from Rafina at 7.45 will run as normal, for the rest there will be a later update.
– Prohibition of sailing from Lavrio and from Kavala – Prinos – Thassos is in force.
