The Nafpaktos Fire Service was alerted when shortly after 22:00 on Friday night it was informed of a fire in a moving vehicle on Ionia Odos.
In particular, the fire broke out in a truck that was heading from Antirrio to Ioannina.
Shortly after the Makynia tunnel, the driver of the vehicle noticed the fire and immediately stopped the truck.
He managed to disconnect the cart he had in the back and tried to put out the fire while at the same time informing the services of Ionia Odos and the Fire Department. A vehicle from the Klokova fire department immediately rushed to the scene, while almost all the personnel of the Nafpaktos fire department were mobilized.
The traffic police stopped vehicular traffic from the Antirrio junction so that no other accident would occur but the firefighters could also put out the fire. After some time the fire was extinguished after it managed to completely burn the cabin of the truck and part of the cart.
The Fire Department is conducting a preliminary investigation into the exact cause of the fire. Thanks to the immediate reaction of the driver, he was spared the load, which, according to the information, is fertilizers.
