In the upcoming Model Year, there will be two main technological upgrades related to the XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90 and V90 Cross Country.
We equip our entire range with a new generation and new appearance user experience, as well as with the extremely fast Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform* by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. This makes the infotainment system much faster and much more adaptive.
In addition, EX30, EX40 and EC40 models will obtain the Plug & Charge service, for even easier and smoother public charge.
Volvo Car UX: User experience designed with safety, dedication and personalization
Our goal is to simplify complex things and as a basis for our work we use data from real conditions and customer information. With this philosophy we approach the new generation user experience, called Volvo Car UX and already exists in EX30, EX90, as well as in the new XC90.
It evolved as a safe and enjoyable way to interact with the main display of the infotainment system in your car, providing improved focus and personalization over your previous user experience, while including many built -in Google ** Services.
The new features include viewing applications and functions you most often use, such as maps, content playback and phone, on the home screen, for faster access. In the same logic, the special menu line changes what you see according to the conditions and views the applications you recently used. The driver’s screen, just behind the steering wheel, was also upgraded offering a larger and more clear display of navigation instructions.
Starting from this year, all the models mentioned above will be equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. We will also offer it in millions of Volvo cars with built-in Google ** services through a simple wireless software update. Later, in 2025, there will be an upgrade to about 2.5 million customers worldwide, with cars from 2020 onwards ***.
“Equipping our entire range with the next generation Volvo Car UX, we are working to achieve a goal that predicts that every Volvo model – independently platform and motion system – should provide a similar user experience, and we provide more options to our customers.” ; says Erik Severinson (Eric Severinson), Product and Strategy Head of Volvo Cars. “This launch is aligned with our strategy to improve our cars over time through wireless updates and it is interconnected with our ambition constantly investing in the whole range of our cars.”
Faster and more adaptive infotainment system
You are probably familiar with our upgrade from our EX90 and EX30 models. Next -generation Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform makes our Google Android Auto -based infotainment system, much faster and more adaptive. The infotainment system in these models will be more than twice as faster than the outgoing system, with a generation of graphics that is up to 10 times faster.
“This upgrade creates an infotainment system without gaps in the response, which promotes the right information at the right time – helping us effectively reduce the driver’s attention and you are a safer driver,” says Anders Bell (Anders Bell), Head of Mechanical Development and Technology at Volvo Cars. “By improving connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies helps us to offer even more value to our customers. We both share a vision for the car identified by its software and how it can provide premium experiences that are personalized, more fun and with the ability to upgrade. “
The Snapdragon Cockpit Platform will also equip the new SUV XC90 this year.
Seamless charge
Finally, within the year Plug & Charge will be added to the ex30, ex40 and EC40 sold on the European market. Plug & Charge is an identification and payment system that simplifies the charging experience.
“With Plug & Charge you only have to head to a charging station compatible, get out of the car, connect it to the supply and continue your day,” says Erik Severinson. “When you come back, follow the same carefree process – the system has taken care of everything.”
Plug & Charge is installed and activated through the car. You can easily find compatible charging stations using Google Maps from the car’s main screen or via the Volvo Cars app. These stations identify your car and the payment method set as soon as you connect the charging cable to the car. The charge automatically starts without the need for additional cards or identification and the payment processing is executed seamlessly.
