The implementation of integrated recycling and retrieval of waste in the municipalities of Kos and Kalymnos and a landfill of landfill, with a total budget of € 110 million, was approved by the Inter -Ministerial PPP Committee.

In particular, the construction of these projects is part of the National Waste Management Planning and covers a period of up to 27 years, of which 2 years are estimated to have the construction period and 25 of the operation.

The need to implement these interventions is derived from the application of the general and specific rules that must be respected in the management of solid waste, as already included in national law, and mainly refer to the reduction in the burial of waste, minimizing environmental impacts. Through the processing of bio -waste, the possibility of producing products (materials and/or energy), the exploitation of which can bring economic benefits and contribute more generally to the rational management of natural resources.

The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanassis and the participation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, the Minister of Development Takis Theodorou for the coordination of government project Akis Skertsou.

The teleconference was attended by the Secretary General of Waste Management Management Manolis Grafakos and the head of the PPP unit Nikos Sergis.
