The immediate declaration of Kefalonia in an emergency was requested by the Mayor of Argostoli, Theophilos Michalatos, in a letter he sent to the competent authorities, where he calls for the immediate intervention of the state mechanism and the protection policy.
Still, in his request, he describes the problems caused by the severe wave of bad weather on the road network and to the islanders.
In detail the request of Mayor Argostoli Theophilos Michalatos is as follows:
“As you know, Cephalonia is still in a state of emergency (ADA P3I546N-8FG), with the exception of the bridegroom and Pylaros community, to complete the management of problems that had caused severe weather events under the name ‘Ianos’.
However, our municipality is again in the vortex of new adverse weather phenomena that are constantly causing extensive disasters in public infrastructure, private property as well as in animal-safe capital.
At the same time, they prevent public traffic causing trapping in vehicles and extremely dangerous conditions for drivers using the road network.
Because the weather is still in progress while all these disasters occur,
Because the transport between our provinces has become problematic with already two central arteries being closed due to landslides and damage,
Because the movement of goods and the transport within the boundaries of our municipality cannot be done seamlessly,
Because citizens face great and multilevel danger,
For the above and other reasons we consider that our Municipality must be re -declared in emergency and the state mechanism to move as provided for by civil protection in extreme weather conditions.
Please take the necessary steps to declare our municipality in an emergency.
