An incredible incident took place on Saturday morning in the center of Thessaloniki.
A student stormed the Rotunda monument in a rage and caused damage.
According to the report of thestival, the 28-year-old student pretended to be the visitor. The clerk at the ticket office asked for a vaccination certificate. He replied that he did not have it with him. Without further ado, he threw his backpack on the ground and started running inside the Rotunda.
The clerk followed him. The 28-year-old had already arrived at the Holy Table (the monument also functions as an Orthodox church) and had removed its covers. Immediately after he moved towards the Cross. She hit him hard and broke him. The clerk approached him and tried to calm him down.
The perpetrator seemed to be in a bad psychological state. In an attempt to apologize, he said that his partner had recently divorced him. He later claimed that he had been affected by the war in Ukraine. As long as it caused damage, he shouted that he was looking for light.
Within minutes, two Group Z police officers arrived at the scene, arrested him and took him to the White Tower Security Department.
A case was filed against the 28-year-old for causing distinct damage. He will be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office.
