“Another 500 of our disability fellow citizens will join the” Personal Assistant Assistant for People with Disabilities “within the month to enhance their independent living,” said Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, who sent a letter to the program yesterday.

The 500 new beneficiaries of the program would come from the already registered applications which met the eligibility criteria during the first two phases of the program, which had not been drawn to date.

They will be informed immediately after the draw is completed in order to set the date for their evaluation. It is noted that the evaluation, which is carried out by the Interdisciplinary Committee, is held at home to facilitate beneficiaries.

“The new draw,” the minister said, “is not just a formal process, but it is about the daily life, independence and quality of life of our fellow citizens. The “Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities” is an act of responsibility and solidarity. We move on immediately, as there is no time to waste. Every day that passes, it can make a difference in the life of a disability fellow citizen. “

The “Personal Assistant” program has already provided significant results. Specifically:

– In the first phase, 1,200 people with disabilities were drawn in the Attica Region to evaluate and acquire a personal assistant.

– In the second phase, 1,250 people were drawn in the other regions of the country to evaluate and acquire a personal assistant.

Today, 1,349 people with disabilities already have a personal assistant, while 1,917 personal assistants have offered their services To our fellow citizens with disabilities. Since April 2023, OPECA has paid 42m euros to support the implementation of the program and to enhance the daily lives of the beneficiaries.

The pilot program “Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities” is funded by the Resilience and Recovery Fund and has been extended until 2026, with the aim of completing its implementation until the Fund’s projects are completed. This extension allows the preparation for the transition of the program to its universal form, regardless of the NSRF funding area.
