The bill to enhance security and modernization of the railway is the most important issue in today’s cabinet – emblematic as government sources – as, two years after the Tempe crash, the government remains a crucial betting and substantial improvement.

The bill, with a number of interventions, aims to substantially change philosophy in the way of administration, recruitment processes, evaluation and responsibility, evaluation, education and re -training of workers, activating safety valves, exploiting good practices and international experiences. The main aim is to show that, based on the suggestions and conclusions of the independent bodies investigating the Tempi accident, there is a substantial intervention in order to make the rail network safe and the move to it.

The basic provisions of the new bill, including the Merger of OSE, ERGOSE, GAIAOSE and the establishment of a model of administration with private -economic criteria, to PPC standards. At the same time, an attempt will be made to repatriate executives working on rail services in foreign countries to transfer know -how and experience from countries with a developed rail network.

Significant changes come in human resources management, as enhanced evaluation procedures, psychometric tests, re -training procedures are expected to be introduced, and dismissal for officials who repeatedly make mistakes. A system of rewarding consistent and responsible workers and penalties will be established for those who are repeatedly suspected of incorrect manipulations during service. In order to meet the important needs to meet the organization’s organic chart, a faster recruitment process is expected to be launched than the rest of the public sector.

The Deputy Minister, Konstantinos Kyranakis, responding a few days ago to trade union complaints, said that not only would the two drivers provided on the routes would not be abolished, but that cameras would be installed in the cabin of the drivers to find them.

The trains will place a geotozing system, which will give a picture of the exact position of the train in real time.

The bill is expected to be put into public consultation in the coming days and the aim is to complete his vote by Parliament in May.

The cabinet is also expected to discuss the issue of measures to contain prices in the basic goods, the validity of which expires tomorrow at the end of the month. This is the ceiling on the gross profit margin of business at 2021 levels and the “household basket”. Three alternatives are discussed by the Government: extending measures for some time due to international volatility, abolition or intermediate provision for extension of measures for certain product categories.

In addition, the bills of the Ministry of Economy and Finance will be presented for the reform of the National Customs Code and the Ministry of Justice for the reform of the Code of Civil Procedure.
