Waste management facilities will help reduce health and environmental risk risks
In order to stop the illegal burial and improve environmental protection, € 65m from funding cohesion will be allocated to upgrade waste management facilities in the Peloponnese region. The European Commission today approved the payment of this amount.
Three Integrated Waste Management Centers, in the regions of Arcadia, Messinia and Laconia, will regain recyclable raw materials with mechanical treatment and produce a compost with waste treatment. In addition, two waste transport stations built in Argolida and Corinth will support the operation of the Integrated Waste Management Centers.
Rafael Fito’s executive vice -president for cohesion and reforms said: “Modern waste management saves resources and reduces both greenhouse gas emissions and health risks to the population. I am glad that cohesion policy will support the upgrading of waste management facilities in the Peloponnese, as it will improve the lives of its citizens in various specific ways. ”
The upgraded waste management facilities will help reduce the risks of health, environmental protection and achieve the Peloponnese recycling and landfill objectives, harmonizing the processing of urban waste in the area with the rules and correct practices of the European Union.
