Will be checked and the Open
A hearing was postponed for June 17, 2025 by the National Broadcasting Council on ANT1, STAR, and Open on how they presented the death of George Baldok. The footballer of National Greece and Panathinaikos passed away at the age of 31 on October 9, 2024.
His surprise death was presented by the broadcasts presented by George Liagas on ANT1, Zena Koutselin on Star and Petros Kousoulos in the Open in a way that caused public opinion, as they put forward either irrelevant information with the circumstances of death or –
National football leader and Panathinaikos footballer Tasos Bakassetas had then reacted strongly to the misinformation, saying he was ashamed of reports as well as journalists who did not respect his family and people who knew him.
It is also indicative that from the shameful way of the events mentioned in the Ant1, Star, and OPEN, even the presenter of the OPEN Central News Bulletin, Eva Antonopoulou, who felt the need to declare that “I do not feel the same job”.
Following the shrubs that broke out, the ESR reacted, 5 days later on October 14, 2024, opening 3 files for the case. It took almost 7 months to call two of the three stations, ANT1 and Star, leaving the Open.
ANT1 and Star were invited to provide explanations by controlling the non -“transmission of events with care and a sense of responsibility”, but also the “quality program” from “Breakfast” and “Truths with Zen”.
Paradoxically, during the discussion it was found that the Open for Petros Koussoulou’s broadcast had not been called!
And so the members of the ESR decided to postpone the joint hearing of all 3 Ant1, Star and Open stations on June 17.
Following the hearing will be followed by the submission of memos from the stations, the recommendation of the Authority’s Specialists, and the decision -making from the plenary of the National Broadcasting Council.
