Clarifications on visits to Elderly Care Units gives it Ministry of Health. It states that until recently, the National Commission for the Protection of Public Health against it Covid-19had suggested the complete suspension of visitor Elderly Care Units (MFIs), due to the high transmissibility of the “Omicron” variant and the increased risk of confluence in MFIs, which as shown by the data available so far, result in the loss of life of the elderly in many higher frequency compared to other population groups.

“In meeting of on March 9, 2022in the context of the partial de-escalation of measures, the Commission suggested to the Government on abolition of suspension of visitorallowing visits to Elderly Care Units, Hospitals to the chronically ill, to closed accommodation facilities for the disabled and to the branches of the Social Welfare Centers by region that accommodate the elderly, the disabled and / or the chronically ill currently in the current SARS-CoV-2 in the community and the particularly high transmissibility of the “Micron” variant of the virus and the ability of this variant for immune escape, under certain conditions “.

Thus, according to the Ministry of Health, be allowed the visiting room in a visitor the time (to avoid overcrowding in the premises of the Units and to reduce the possibility of transmission), if it presents a negative result of laboratory test (with rapid antigen or molecular test) of the last twenty-four hours before the visit and at the same time taking the necessary measures to prevent dispersion ( mandatory use of high respiratory protection mask, hand hygiene, etc.).

THE Commission concluded this proposal after examining the issue in three consecutive sessions, thoroughly investigating each aspect and weighing on the one hand, the extremely increased risk of loss of life of the elderly due to Covid-19, and on the other, the deeply human need to have contact with loved ones, elderly people, who may leave life for natural causes.

“Recognizing the difficulty of the decision, the Commission has adopted a framework that allows the elderly living in MFIs to visit, but safely, in order to protect their life and health and not to deprive them of vital contact with their loved ones. The measures are reviewed at regular intervals based on the current epidemiological situation.

In this context, just the Commission “If there is a possibility of further de-escalation of the restrictions that apply to the visit of patients to MFIs, the Government will immediately proceed to relax the measure”, the Ministry of Health concludes.
