What the owners of vehicles need to know about compulsory insurance against natural disasters from June 1, 2025, explains the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece (UAE).

In particular, the UAE, on the occasion of the adoption of compulsory vehicle insurance against natural disasters under Law 5162/2024, has created a brief graph to inform the owners.

As of June 1, 2025, all vehicle owners are required to have an insurance policy covering damage from natural disasters – forest fire and flood.

What should vehicle owners know:

  • Insurance will be done on the basis of the current commercial value of the vehicle
  • The obligation to insurance for natural disasters also applies to vehicles that have submitted signs and have been placed in administrative immobility
  • Under the new law, debtors in insurance will be excluded from any state aid grant for vehicles that have not been insured against natural disasters

The UAE recommends that vehicle owners contact their insurance company or their mediator to integrate these coverage into their vehicle insurance. It is noted that for the insurance of the professional use of businesses with a turnover of over € 500,000 there is Law 5116/2024.
