Commission evaluation shows that the EU is currently in the process of reducing the net greenhouse gas emissions by about 54% by 2030
The Member States of the European Union (EU) have significantly covered the gap in achieving the energy and climate goals for 2030, in accordance with the evaluation of national energy and climate plans (ESEC) by the European Commission. EU countries have significantly improved their plans following the Commission’s recommendations in December 2023. As a result, the EU collectively approaches the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55%, as provided for in European climate legislation, and approaching at least 42.5%.
The Commission’s evaluation shows that the EU is currently in the process of reducing the net greenhouse gas emissions by about 54% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, if Member States fully implement existing and planned national measures and policies in the current EU. The climate, investing with determination in the transition to pure forms of energy and prioritizing the EU’s industrial competitiveness and social dimension.
The evaluation of the Commission constitutes the basis of the debate on the next steps in the EU’s course towards charcoal with a horizon in 2040 and the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050. The Commission will intensify cooperation with the Member States to fill the left -wing gaps and will provide additional guidance.
