A large anti-war demonstration took place in Trafalgar Square in central London on Saturday afternoon. Protesters dressed in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and holding placards with slogans such as “Support Ukraine”, “Stop the war” sent a message of solidarity to the people of Ukraine, condemning the Russian invasion. Leaders, personalities and politicians from all over the world made their own intervention through a giant screen set up in the center of the square. Among them is the mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis.

Mr. Bakoyannis pointed out that Athens proudly participates in the event of solidarity for the Ukrainian citizens, uniting its voice with the rest of the world, sending a resounding message: “A message of hope, strength, unity and peace”, as he emphatically stressed, noting at the same time “In the last month, the dark authoritarian forces have been attacking the values we all love: democracy, freedom, the rule of law, and human rights.”

At the same time, he praised the bravery and heroism of the Ukrainians who, as he underlined, “resisted for their sovereignty, self-determination and democracy in this violent attack.” That is why, as he noted, the Ukrainians “are fighting for all of us. For each of us around the world. ” Thus, “from London to Athens and beyond, we are all on the side of Ukraine”, concluded the mayor of Athens in his short intervention.
