The energy upgrading of the country’s largest school complex, the Grava School Complex, was signed between the chief executive of KATS SA. Athanasiou Giannaris and the contractor of the project, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, the Minister of Education, Religions and Sports Sofia Zacharakis, the Attica Regional Governor Nikos Chardalia, the Mayor of Athens
The project, with a total budget of EUR 8,700,000, is funded by resources of the Attica Regional Program of the Attica Region and will be implemented under the beneficiary of the company “Building Infrastructure SA” (Bab). The duration of the project is set at about three years (950 calendar days after the signature of the contract).
On the occasion of the signing of the contract, Attica Regional Governor Nikos Chardalias said: “The Attica Region is strategically investing in education, the safety of our children and the sustainability of public infrastructure. The energy upgrading of the Grava school complex is a substance project that responds to the real needs of the school community, saves resources, reduces environmental impacts and – mainly – offers students and teachers a modern, safe and human learning environment.
For us in the region, schools are not just buildings. They are cells of our society, they are investments in the future. With plan, perseverance and actions, we shield Attica’s school infrastructure, both for today’s and for future generations. We continue to work daily in order to make our vision of a viable, durable and fair district for all.
I know that everyone is working daily under difficult conditions and I think we all agree today that the synergies of both degrees of self -government with the central government can bring better results. We are talking about the future of our children and their self -evident right to better education conditions. “
For his part, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas noted that: “The energy upgrading of the Grava school complex is a large -scale project, which is part of the government’s overall program to improve public school infrastructure. The contract includes extensive interventions in nine school complexes in the Municipality of Athens and the Municipality of Galatsi, which houses educational units, from kindergartens to high schools, EPAL and IEK. This is another project implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, through building infrastructure, in the field of education, with the overall budget of these projects exceeding € 400 million across the country. It comes as a continuation of the signature we had on Friday for the approval of the Marietta Giannakou Convention on the renovation of 426 school units in 13 regions of the country.
In closing, I would like to point out that the works in Grava are of particular value because they take place in a historic and large school complex in the heart of the capital. And I say this, because we often hear that infrastructure in Athens are in better shape than other parts of the country, but this is not completely accurate, given that many schools are old buildings and need interventions. This is precisely the value of today’s contract. We are working intensively to add more and more school units to this list of upgrades. “
The Minister of Education, Religions and Sports Sofia Zacharakis noted that: “Today we have a partnership brought by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Education, and the Second Degree Local Government, as we are talking about a program that is being funded to the greater extent by the region of the region. Municipal schools need our interventions and I am very pleased, because the range of work will be great. Indeed, in addition to building and energy upgrading, there will be aesthetics so that our children have a better school. “
The Mayor of Athens Haris Doukas stressed that: “Today’s day is historic. Thanks to the two ministries and the Attica Region, because we are talking about a school complex perhaps the largest in the country, with 3 kindergartens, 4 elementary schools, 2 gymnasiums, 2 high schools and an energy costs that for the Municipality of Athens reaches half a million a year. So this move will have a great environmental effect. We support this great initiative and of course we will follow the march and in 2.5 years we will be here to see a new building complex. “
Galatsi Mayor and President of the Regional Union of Attica Municipalities (PEDA) George Markopoulos said: “I have been in the municipality for 20 years and this was our first request every time the new school year began. A very big thank you to the Ministries of Infrastructure and Education and of course in the Attica Region and KAT, because without them this great project could not be done. “
The CEO of KTYS SA Athanasios Giannaris said: “The implementation of the important work of the energy upgrade of the country’s largest school complex, the iconic grava and the conversion of school units that include, in modern and upgraded. This is a budget project of EUR 8,700,000, funded by the Attica Region and the PSC of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. “Building Infrastructure SA” It has set education and its infrastructure as a maximum priority so that students can acquire knowledge and skills in the best possible environment and teachers to perform their function in the best possible conditions. “
The identity of the project
The Grava School Complex consists of seven sub -high school and high school complexes, as well as an autonomous complex of elementary and kindergartens, occupying a total area of over 40,000 sq.m. And serving thousands of students daily the natural object of the energy upgrade project signed, includes a comprehensive network of building and electromechanical interventions, which include, among other things, the replacement of all external windows with new aluminum and energy -efficient glass, and ventilation, and the use of modern automation for energy management of buildings.
At a functional level, the complex’s energy class is provided by two categories (from D to B+), with a significant improvement in thermal comfort and safety of existing infrastructure. At the same time, replacement of old materials and the use of modern technologies increases the life of the facilities and ensures the smooth operation of schools.
At an environmental level, the project leads to a significant reduction in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, thanks to the utilization of renewable energy and the application of savings technologies. The environmental footprint of the complex is significantly limited, helping to protect natural resources and improving the quality of air in the indoors.
At the financial level, the project will drastically reduce the operating costs of schools, allowing the saving resources to be used for additional educational or social activities. In the long run, this investment is expected to be depreciated, through savings and energy offsetting.
